stila ain’t so stylin’
Continuing the never ending (but happily so) quest for the perfect lipgloss, I decided to try out Stila lip glaze, which has been hailed as “the best” by countless magazines, Web sites and even Sadies. Naturally, it had to be my next stop on this search. First off, here’s a bit of what they have to say about their own product:
…an array of delectable shades that add a splash of color and fabulously matching flavors and scents in one easy click of the famous pen. Cosmetics experts agree-this top seller is an essential addition to any beauty bag.
Sounds just as good as rumors say, right? Not so much. Although yes, the colors were fabulous, this lip glaze did not win me over. I tried it in “Sugar Plum,” a mauve-pink that they describe as “sheer nude plum.” Although it was a little too shimmery for me, I was very happy with the opacity of the color, but the consistency of the gloss itself just absolutely killed it. It was way too sticky, so although I got a really nice shine that at least lasted long enough, I didn’t care how well it lasted — I just wanted to wipe it off.
Product Review: Stila lip glaze in “Sugar Plum.” $22 at Sephora or stilacosmetics.com. A for rainbow of delicious looking colors for any type of sweet tooth; B- for teeny bopper-like sparkliness; C- for being sticky enough to repair my broken J.Crew headband.

a moment of shimmer, but only just a moment
I am in search for the perfect lip gloss. I’ve found that ladies are in two camps: the first believe that this mythical “perfect lip gloss” does not exist, while the second is convinced that their one-and-only, always-in-my-purse tube is It. However, a true Sadie could never be satisfied with either of these options. So, this summer, we’re going to try out different lip glosses together, and take a look at what they all have to offer.
Let’s start with DuWop Elixrstix. Here’s a bit of what DuWop has to say about their product:
In the perfect partnership of two cultural phenomena, DuWop has collaborated with e•lix•r Tonics & Teas to create Elixrstix, a beauty experience unlike any other. Blending the healthy elements of the e•lix•r tonic with the aesthetic beauty benefits of a gorgeous, non-sticky lip gloss, Elixrstix provides moisturizing coverage, giving a gorgeous glow of color while delighting the palate.
I tried this tube in Sephora on my way to work this morning. I was wearing a fab outfit of a cap-sleeved black tee over black slacks with a homemade beaded rope necklace in a bright green. Tre chic. So I needed to go with a light gloss, one that would summer-up my outfit. I tried this gloss in “Serenity,” a peach-tinted shimmer. It was pleasantly non-sticky, just like DuWop promised, but fell short on a few other counts. Although it didn’t dry out my lips like some glosses do (especially the cheap, pharmacy brands), I wouldn’t exactly call it “moisturizing.” Also, I think that in order to be actually good for your lips, the gloss would have to stay on for more than 40 minutes, which it did not. After my first cup of coffee in the office, any hint of the gloss had disappeared. That being said, it wasn’t as bad as the type that dissolve if you move your lips at all. It also did provide a lovely shimmer/shine balance with the perfect translucent color for summer.
Product Review: DuWop Elixrstix in Serenity. $22 at sephora.com and store.duwop.com. A- for anti-gloopy goo; C+ for coffee-proof; B+ for color that makes it seem like summer despite the crappy NY weather.
